09-10 Season

Postby Gooner Dundee » 15 Jul 2009, 12:02

So when are we going to set this up again?

I think this time we should keep the code in the members only section and kick out anyone who isn't a signed up member

I've set up a league. The code is 19620-50786.

A new feature this year is a head-to-head league, in which you can play against your mates rather than just strangers.

There's only 20 places up for grabs in the head-to-head league, so get in quickly!

If you want to join the H2H league, PM me for the code.

Hopefully we can get some prizes going for the leagues.

Yeah,

The link is http://fantasy.premierleague.com/

Once you've created your team, click on leagues and then managed leagues, and create/join league.

Enter the code 19620-50786 to join the league.

Only 20 spots are available though.

All my players were from Arsenal, Chelsea & Liverpool, with one from Utd and I was minus 30+, this is hard.

It's hard to fit a lot of stars into your team.

Although, I think a good formula is 2-4 midpriced defenders, 1-2 cheap , 1-2 star midfielders, 2-3 midpriced and 1-2 cheap, 0-1 star striker, 1-2 midpriced, 1-2 cheap.

I just can't get a team with out going over budget.

Right now I've got...

Reina Sorenson
Sagna Cuellar Vidic Lescott Cole
Milner Hargreaves Gerrard Essien Arshavin
Evans Torres VazTe

And this leaves me at minus 10

What a head fcuk!

Clayside FC

Reina
Sagna Vidic Alex Figueroa
Mendy Gerrard Mikel Arshavin
VazTe Torres

Finally!

*It keeps putting my players in messed up positions but, like Vidic as RB and Sagna as CB, etc. Each time I change them around it reverts back to these stupid positions. How do you change this?

Don't worry about positions, it doesn't matter from with point scoring.

Who's on your bench?

Sorenson

Ok cool, so how does the scoring work anyway? I've never done this before.

Not a bad team, I'd look at some other reserves though.

Muamba tends to be a more of a DM, so won't score a lot of points, Evans is too expensive and won't play many games unless Ferdinand or Vidic get injured. If they do, you can transfer him in later.

I like Sorenson as a back-up keeper and Cuellar should get a fair few games.

Not sure about Mendy, Mikel or VazTe, can't see them getting a lot of assists/goals or apperances.

Muamba was really just a filler, same as Mendy, I needed a couple midfielders for like 4 or 4.5 I think. Evans is actually Ched Evans of City. I like Mikel, I reckon he's a good DM, with the potential to score.

You got me thinking about VazTe and Evans though, I made a couple changes. Got Cresswell and Jerome in for up front and also got in Hangeland.

But what's the objective, to choose players who are more likely to score goals for their respective teams in the actual EPL?

If that's the case I'll change the whole formation, go a 4-3-3 and drop a midfielder and defender from the team, pick up a couple more forwards.

Whilst some fillers are ok, ideally you want fillers who will go up in value.

Of the promoted teams, look for Wolves attackers and Birmingham defenders.

Look at Nelson, Shawcross or Fabe Ay, as cheap defenders.

There are plenty of cheap strikers to chose from.

Mendy was ok last year, but he's been played as a RB in a couple of Hull City's pre-season games because Ricketts has moved to Bolton. So I'd stay away from him, as it takes away his attacking influence and he won't get points for clean sheets as a midfielder (not that there's likely to be many of those at Hull).

Ive gone for Schwarzer, Lescott, Alex, Abdolah Faye, Milner, Fabregas (C), Arshavin, Dan. Murphy, Jo, Davies.

Bench: Sorensen, Shawcross, Eduardo, Obi Mikel.

Schwarzer, and Lescott were in the best team last year, Arshavin polled well, despite starting only in Jan, and Eduardo costs little, as he lplayed little last year.

The beauty is that you can all change your side before the first game without loosing any points/transfers etc.

Not a bad team, although it looks like you're playing last years game, not this year.

I'd stay away from Schwarzer. I reckon there are better options available, and Fulham may struggle with the extra pressure of European football.

I'd either go for another cheap keeper, or try to free some space up elsewhere and go for a premium keeper. Alternatively, I reckon someone like Gomes offers better value.

Not sure about Alex either, he's expensive and not guaranteed to start.

The other player I'd be careful of is Mikel, who is more of a DM, and therefore won't score well. His place is under threat with Essien back also.

Other than that, your team shows some promise.

Some more tweaking to the team and this is what I've got at the moment, think I'll stick with this, but I'm a little unsure about one or two players...

Jerome Torres Cresswell
Gerrard Mikel Fletcher Arshavin
Sagna Vidic Alex
Reina

SUBS
Sorenson
Figueroa
Mendy
Shawcross

I don't know about Mikel and Alex, whether they'll be starters for Chelsea. I like my midfield and backline in the sense that I don't think they'll be letting in too many goals, and with Gerrard, Arshavin and Torres I'm guaranteed we'll score a lot of them.

This has got me thinking about a world class football team, who would I choose. And I don't think I'd have one gunner starting, maybe a couple on the bench. But I think this is a problem we have with our club. Who would start for such a team?

I'd have a 4-3-3 formation, maybe this would be my pick...

Ibrahimovic Eto Messi
Ribery Gerrard Ronaldo
Cole Alex Vidic Maicon
Reina

Valdes
Torres
Van Persie
Arshavin
Xavi
Sagna

Who would you guys have on your sqaud?

What do you think of changing Mikel for either Mascherano or Anderson (Utd)?

You reckon one of those two would be starting more often than Mikel?

And swapping Alex for Cole?

Cole in is a good move.

Anderson is a risky move, but he's got goal scoring potential, unlike the other two.

I'm not too confident in my selections of Fletcher and Anderson.

Just in regards to how often they will play.

I think if one doesn't start, the other will though, so that may cover me. Though it would still be a waste of a selection.

For their price though, they're both good selections.

I don't know, I think I'd rather have Carrick.

Any suggestions?

I expect Fletcher to get more games, but neither are likely to score a lot of points.

I reckon you'd be better picking a player from another side. The ex-gunner Seb Larsson is a better bet. He's in my team.

Carrick is a good option. He won't get a lot of goals, but he may get a few bonus points and may take some set pieces/penalties.

Man, I was really debating whether to choose Drogba or Torres as my front man. Ended up deciding on Torres and Drogba opens the season with a brace.

Trust Adebayor to score almost immediately for City.

Can't believe Cesc scored a brace and had 2 assists in his opening game.

I was so indecisive between him and Arshavin and I ended up choosing Arshavin in my team. At least AA got an assist last night.

I hope Torres and Gerrard have a big game tonight against the yiddos. It'll be doubly rewarding to see the spuds get their ass handed to them and do well with my fantasy team too!

Gerrard is a doubt for Spurs tonight, but I expect him to play.

I ended up going Lampard over Gerrard, because I wasn't sure about his role without Alonso in the team.

I've got Torres though.

I'm surprised to see so many people transferring Cesc in despite the fact that he doesn't have a game this week due to the Champions League qualifier.

I'm sticking with Arshavin.

Cesc was great last night, and even though I expect him to provide many more assists throughout the season. I'm pretty sure Arshavin will provide more goals than Cesc, and possibly more assists too.

I'm hoping Gerrard will be as prominent this season as last. Losing Alonso ain't that good for Liverpool. But as long as Gerrard has Mascherano alongside him, I think he should be the same old Gerrard. Plus Aquilani may just replace Alonso anyway.

Depending upon how Torres goes tonight, I may transfer him for Drogba this week. I expect both of them to have great seasons, but Drogba certainly got off to a great start. And Torres with his injuries is questionable.

I'd wait until Torres actually gets an injury before transferring him out.

He didn't look great against Spurs from what I've read, but he's a proven striker.

Drogba may have a great season though.

I'm more worried about Lampard not taking set pieces, as Drogba scored from a free-kick.

Aquilani is a different player to Alonso. He's more of an offensive player and plays higher up the pitch. I think Liverpool need to use the extra 10m to invest in a better DM than Lucas.

I watched the games last night. Torres and Gerrard were ordinary.

So was United, which is fantastic. Though, if we remember last year, they didn't get off to the best start but you can always count on them being in contention as we hit christmas.

I've got to see who Chelsea and Liverpool face this weekend and see about swapping Torres for Drogba. If only I went with my first thought with Drogba and Fabregas, I would've had an awesome first round with the points.

Chelsea's away to Sunderland and Liverpool are at home to Stoke, both midweek games.

Think I'd be wise to stick with Torres, hopefully Liverpool bounce back playing at home and Torres gets a hat trick, or at least a brace and Gerrard scores again.

The other thing about using your transfer this week, how many players have you got in your team this week?

I've got 11 playing if Espinoza plays, 12 from teams playing this week, but Ebanks-Blake is out injured.
