Calling All Gooners for Sydney OzSupporter Clubs Pub Com

Postby eliae » 18 Sep 2008, 17:37

Fellow Gooners,

We have been invited to the 1st OZ Supporters Clubs Pub Comp where we will battle it out with other supporter groups based in OZ for the title of 'Best Supporters Club'.

Saturday 11 October
12pm - 6pm
Cheers Bar, Sydney
Lunch provided, $5 pints (and maybe a beer sponsor!)

The Pub Comp will feature 3 events - Darts, Pool, Quiz against teams from Everton, Liverpool etc etc.

This is your chance to wear your colours in full cry of THE ARSENAL, show the rest of the OZ Supporter Clubs what we are made of, mix in with good natured banter and laughs (no idiots please like the good old Arsenal way) with the other supporters (may have to remind our neighbours what bottom of the table feels like), and above all to cheer on our 8 Gooner reps to victory in the Pub Comp.

Below are all the details sent by our Everton counterparts.

At this stage we are after as many Gooners to attend on the day.

In terms of selecting the 8 that will represent us gloriously through the Darts, Quiz, and Pool let's leave this open until the final day.

Keep it Goonerish!
Elia

I am writing to invite Arsenal Australia to the first OZ Supporters Clubs Pub Comp of the 2008/09 season.

Basically the pub comp compromises of two teams with three events, previously it was darts (rules explained later), pool and poker however poker will be out this time to be replaced by a quiz, this time however we are upping the teams to four!

Everton and Liverpool have confirmed already!

TNT will be sponsoring the event and the day will form an article to feature in the TNT magazine (so colours a must) the following week aswell as being placed on the TNT website, the guys there are also trying to get a feature with a UK media organisation but all up we are getting free publicity for our clubs and a chance to plug our sites etc.

We are also speaking with a Beer company re sponsorship but this will be confirmed next week.

All are team events with each club having 8 players in each one, we had 30+ turn up last time so we just ask who wants to play in what and who just wants a day out on the beer!

The date for the event is Saturday 11th October so we still have plenty of time to organise but getting the word out there is the main thing to ensure good numbers.(Forum, Mass emails, website promotion etc).

The Comp is held in Cheers Bar on George St and starts at midday (12.00) and runs for approx 5/6 hours, all in all a great day out and a good laugh with plenty of banter but obviously no idiots, I've arranged a few of these and they've always gone well as we have a really good age mix and everyone just wants to enjoy the day.

Cheers Bar provide a compere who is also the referee and lunch whilst I organise the trophy.

There is a no charge to enter so the trophy, prizes and food for all attendees (members) is provided.

I know you guys are using Cheers as your base this season and I've noticed quite a few Gunners in there lately so I really hope that you can join us for what should be a great day and will give us all some great exposure throughout Oz.

Please let me know asap so I can confirm things as we can't just have teams turn up on the day.

Regards,

Lee.

Absolutely fantastic. Got the minimum 8 Gooners turn up from all over NSW plus a english lad that ended up waering a geordie shirt out of noweher. we just missed out on the Quiz, we took out the Darts gloriously by over 300, and were half through winning our Pool until Everton worked out that if we both threw the final 4 games to Celtic Liverpool would have to playoff Celtic to win (they had 30 to choose from and they were typical scousers, most whinging with everything). All in all a fun day to talk Arsenal, banetr with the other lot, and $5 pints all day. Being a new bunch of blokes we didn't have many songs so we got one back them with 'If you want to sing, why don't you join a choir".

Cheers
