What would your starting XI be?

Postby gigi85 » 07 Sep 2011, 12:16

Who would you guys play where, and in what formation? Assuming everyone is fit and ready to go. I'm going to go ahead and assume most of the latest transfers go straight into the starting lineup even though we haven't seem them play for the Arsenal yet.

4-4-2

Szczesny
Sagna, Mertesacker, Vermaelen, Santos
Walcott, Arteta, Wilshere, Benayoun
Gervinho, Van Persie

Subs: Park, Rosicky, Frimpong, Gibbs, Jenkinson, Djourou, Arshavin

AW is going to have some selection problems if everyone is fit, thats for sure!!

If everyone is fit? Love your optimism gigi :)

Unfortunately the only place we are likely to get our 1st 11 together is in the Arsenal medical treatment room!

We're more likely to have a team that will look like:

Almunia
Jenkinson, squillaci, koscielny, Gibbs
Coqualin, Rosicky, Frimpong
Chamberlain, Park, Miyaichi

Subs: Stepanovs, Caesar,Cygan, McGoldrick, Diawarra, Helder

yeh, i definitely want to try him there

we have no dominant force in midfield, no one who can tackle, no one who can act as security for the back four and offer something going forward

vermaelen can tackle well, is a decent passer, has a good shot on him and can provide the security and defense we need in the holding midfield position

but he can also make late runs in to the box and be a threat in the air, or arrive late and take a crack from out side the box

as well as being capable of passing from deep positions

with the signing of mertesacker, i'd be comfortable enough leaving him with koscielny in central defense, especially with vermaelen sitting in front of them

Walcott has obviously taken all this negativity to heart - he had his best game in arsenal colours on Saturday. Good thing AW didnt take your advice edhuddy!!

And wasn't our worst player against OM either. Clearly I have no idea. Alternatively, he lacks consistency...
