I'm looking forward to the Spuds getting humiliated in the Champions League this season - that's if they manage to scrape past Young Boys...

Would be more humiliating for them not to get past them

well somebody must they started a thread on it .
how is it a huge assumption ? Any Epl side in the top half of the comp should and does easily qualify for the group stage and then has a 50/50 chance of progressing as the top 2 out of 4 go through and one side in your group is generally from a piss weak league.
My post was just highlighting that when a sportsperson comes out and bags/gloats or whatever about the opposition they are generally left with egg on their face

Well given our record against Barca in the CL (who appear to be our CL nemesis tbh), alot of us could be eating our own words..

Tottenham have won away from home over AC Milan....

Our boys better bring it tomorrow morning, given the form Barcelona are in, I think we are in for a hard game.

Thought it was very harsh for the commentators to suggest that it was an 'Arsenal tackle'.

Just because he commits a reckless tackle and used to play for Arsenal, they suggest that he deliberately tried to injure Corluka.

Quite disappointed that the commentator didn't get repremanded for that. That's a Joey Barton sort of thing, and I can't think of any players who've played for Arsenal (at least recently) that would deliberately try to injure a player simply because they played for a rival of Arsenal.

I have to say I have to chuckle at that tackle by the ex gooner Flames:
http://soccertvlive.blogspot.com/2011/0 ... -foot.html

I am probably biased but the Diaby/Barton incident was much worse than this. I cant believe commentators thought the diaby one was a fair challenge because he wont the ball and now this big hype about this one.

I wish these commentators would learn the bloody rules, there is nothing in the rules saying that you can kick the bloke as hard as you effing want becuase you win the ball. you hear the commentators week in week out saying, 'but he won the ball'.

The 'he got the ball' excuse is crap, because it's still a foul if you take out the player in the motion of getting the ball. For example, you can't go through a player to get the ball, or get a touch on the ball then still clearly take out the player.

However, I think the Flamini tackle was much worse than the Barton tackle. It was two footed and very dangerous. Flamini should've got a red card, but Barton probably deserved a yellow for his also. Barton is a see you next Tuesday, but his tackle wasn't as bad as Flamini's.

Finally, I completely agree that commentators need to start learning the rules, as the way the media reacts to a situation is to take the most simplistic view of the incident and the FA often caves in as a result.
