January 2010

Postby chrisl » 23 Dec 2009, 06:41

Here we go after the xmas and new year hangovers, we get a month of bulls**t and speculation... I am tipping that Wenger will buy a striker and he will do it early.... who I have no idea but I still like the look of Huntelaar... he is not happy at Milan and needs more game time going into a world cup year... he is big and strong and can lead the line... and next season pairing up with RVP will be brilliant... I think we are a quality striker and a quality central defender for back up to allow gallas and vermi the odd rest or to cover injuries.. (lets face it if either of them get injured we are f**ked) away from winning some major silverware this season... despite the injuries and not having a massive squad we are in a great position and we just need to add a couple of things....

WE'RE GUNNA WIN THE LEAGUE.... WE'RE GUNNA WIN THE LEAGUE...

i agree with ST n backup CB, am slightly worried about our DM position when song leaves. n if manny continues his recent form we may hav to look at a new GK unless fabianski is given a chance...

Huntelaar is an option, and could be available at the right price.

He's struggled at Milan, hopefully that'll just result in us getting him cheaper.

He didn't get a lot of game time at Madrid, but had a reasonable goals to games ratio.

He's still trading on his reputation at Ajax, but he could be a viable option at the right price.

I wouldn't mind if we had a go at Chamakh in January. He should be available at a bargain price and he's only got six months left on his contract. He was an option in July, but Bordeaux wanted too much. I think he'll leave there at the end of the season, and it'll be interesting to see where he goes. He's been linked with West Ham, Spurs and Everton, but I would've expected him to stay at Bordeaux for another year, in order to play more Champions League football.

At the moment, Bordeaux are a far superior side to Everton or West Ham.

As for a new keeper, I'd love us to sign Akinfeev in the summer, but I can't see that happening.

Mash I think we are sweet at DM Deni and Diaby can fill that really well... and Ramsey Nasri etc will be fine.... we have 1000 midfielders just no strikers or central defenders... Just throwing something out there but with hughes getting the bullet Bellamy and Given have the shits... I would love to get given I rate him in the top 5 keepers in the world and without him Man Shity would have dropped a lot more points this season.... And I know I hate bellamy too but he scores goals and has an agro fight hard attitude and may inspire the work rate and aggression in the rest of the lads... when you are a goal in front away and you have someone like him chasing and tackling and yelling at everyone I think that is a key ingredient we are missing...

fair enuff, i think with the CB situation senderos will most likely leave (maybe in jan) and hopefully we can replace him with a competent CB with silvest as our 4th n when djourou comes back silvest will be 5th. there are a few strikers out there to help fill in for rvp as u guys already mentioned n i would be stoked to get given (but i dont think city will let go of him) i dont kno too much about akinfeev but surely he'd be better that almunia...

Given is a sensational keeper, but I can't see him leaving Man City.

Plus, there's a good chance that he'd have to take a big pay cut to leave Man City.

I'm still not sold on Denilson or Diaby as quality DMs. Song is a top quality player, but he lack a little bit of depth there. I see Denilson and Diaby more as squad players than first team regulars.

As for Bellamy, whilst he's a decent striker, there are several reasons I wouldn't want to see him in an Arsenal shirt.

Firstly, he's bad for team morale, secondly, he's injury prone, thirdly, he's not better than Eduardo anyway, and finally, he doesn't fit our requirements.

deni is much to weak to hold up at DM n diaby has barely any defensive side to his game, cover may be needed except deni will "do" for the weak teams but we'll hav a pretty tough run during the ACN hence i hope wenger dips into the market for a DM

in terms of priority id say:
CB (backup)
DM
ST
GK

theres news goin around of a loan deal for huntelaar which i think would be excellent. with senderos keen to leave to get game time surely wenger would replace him. the other 2 positions i very much doubt wenger will even bother with :?

what about a Flamini loan until the summer go? He isn't getting much game time in a world cup season and does know the players and the Arsenal way of life.. Could do better.

Agree with chris that we need a striker (a big fark off quality striker) and a CD.

Also think we should farkin buy Toure (Yaya) even if he's big bro aint here no more. He'd be at the african cup of nations but long term I think he'd be exactly what we need (with song as back up both as DM and CB).

That would give us a lot more flexibility WHEN injuries occur . . . . I think

Also think Flamini loan would be great, I'm sure many players would like to see him back dunno how the terraces would react.

I think a striker is first priority.

Eduardo and Vela aren't big enough to play up front, and I'd like to see Arshavin get a rest, particuarly as he's got a foot injury.

If Arshavin goes down injured, we could be in real trouble.

Getting Flamini back would be great, as he'd give us a bit of versitility also. He could even play RB if Sagna goes down injured whilst Eboue is away.

We've been linked with a couple of strikers:

Gonzalo Higuain:

http://www.teamtalk.com/football/story/ ... 66,00.html?

Lacina Traore:

http://www.sport.co.uk/news/Football/32 ... bayor.aspx

Traore seems the more likely - he's cheap, young, a target man.

However, Higuain is top quality, and I'd love to see him at Arsenal. I tend to think that he's too expensive for a player that Madrid actually still need.

Although, this makes the Traore transfer less likely:

They want about 40m euros, soulds a fair bit for us though.

Has played in the EPL before, at Birmingham when they got relegated. Was on loan to them from one of the rich Arab clubs!

i hear we are looking at sol campbell altho i really cant see him being of any benefit to us to be honest he is 35 and hasnt played for 2 months or so and the one game he played for notts county he didnt look very convincing but then again he could prove us all wrong and we do need defensive cover coz outside of gallas and vermaelen there isnt much else

Sol Campbell isn't coming to Arsenal - it's the same sort of rumours as when Becks was training with us.

Wenger won't let Senderos go unless Djourou fully recovers anyway.

hmm well i'm not so confident soll isn't coming back
http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/campbell-named-in-arsenal-reserve-team

we won 4-2, but conceeded 2 (after campbell went off at half time)

Also we're being linked to Louis Saha. Could be a good get actually, he's probably the type of striker we need to lead the line, and he's french :)

I can't see him buying a player to cover a two week absence.

He'll play Diaby or Ramsey there until Denilson or Song are back.

This guy would be an awesome pick up, he has already shown at 16 years of age he can play at the top level in Belgium for Anderlecht and he will definitely improve if he signs for Arsenal. Hopefully Chelscum dont poach him before the gunners do but they may coz he idolises Drogba DOH.
Oh and his name is spelt Romelu Lukaku not Lakaku, so many press articles r spelling his name wrong :p

Don't know if anyone else has seen if, but the new kid we've signed is reported to be an age cheat and is actually 20, rather than the 17 that he's reported to be.

http://youngguns.wordpress.com/2010/01/ ... age-cheat/?

Bolivian TV have referenced a couple of things. We'll obviously have to do some bone testing before we sign him to confirm his age.

Chris Smalling has been linked to us.

Has been touted as one for the future, he is currently playing for Fulham filling the Nevland role as he has been injured. He playes CB, possibly a long term replacement for Gallas.

Just 19, has played in Europa league this season.

Just watched Wnger after match conference from our game v Bolton (second game) and normally he denies all players linked. He did say id prefer not to comment. Now, that could either mean that he doesnt bother any more talking about transfers bevasue he gets it in every interview, or something brewing. Sky Sports News has said talks have begun.

Just read on a gossip site so it wont come to anything most likely but rafa is wanting to do a swap deal between Babel and Merida.. I would go for this as we will lose Fran anyway at this stage and Babel is quality under the right gaffer..

id take that. i feel more at ease with sol as backup to verm n gallas, altho he lacks pace i was pleased with his performance at stoke. ye he lost his man on the 2nd goal, but deni is to blame for that pathetic chase effort on the crosser. hopefully nicklas will be back soon n we're good to go. it is absolutely imperative that we get a good GK at the end of this season, no way wenger would get one in jan.

I'd definitely go for that, but I'm almost positive that it's just media talk.

It's one of the less realistic transfer stories that I've heard this window.

Time is running out though, and with Eduardo going off injured against Villa, another striker would be brilliant.

I don't think Bendtner is anywhere near 100% yet, but he was needed after Eduardo went off. I think he was instructed to just take it easy. He'll probably start against United, Chelsea and Liverpool though. Hopefully he gets through those matches.

With the injuries that we've got at the moment, an extra player or two would be really handy.

Unfortunately, having those extra players could rob Vela, Ramsey and others of opportunities that they need to develop. It's a really difficult balancing act and hence why Wenger only buys if he sees a quality bargain.
