Jack Wilshere

Postby goonerphill » 31 Jul 2008, 10:18

So he's looking good in pre season. He's English. Stands a good chance of playing a part in the squad this season.

What clubs do you think the press will be saying he's leaving us for next season?

I reckon he's a good chance to stay.

He's English, so it's not like he's going to go overseas. English players hardly ever do.

He will be good for us this year, but I'm not sure if he'll be as influential as Cesc.

Good to see him scoring goals, but he's got a lot to learn, and hopefully, unlike Cesc he can keep up the scoring.

Cesc was top scorer for Spain in U19 Euro when he was 15 but the goals dried up until this season. I get the feeling Wilshire could be a regularly scoring midfielders. He's more of a AM rather than a CM like Cesc.

This kid looks very special indeed. Only 16 years of age he obviously has a lot to learn but he's under the guidance of the best manager of young players in the game today.

He doesn't look like the typical English player, and he loves to run with the ball. For all of Arsenal's beautifully intricate passing, there are times when we desperately need someone to just pick the ball up and run at defenders.

Phill, i think his name is Wilshere =P

Anyway, if you did watch this kid play in the pre-season game, you can see there are so much potential in him. I won't be surprised to see him break into first team at the age of 17 which is same as Cesc! To me, he's like our Rooney!

Jack has been added to the squad for the Emirates cup this weekend. Seems to be overcoming every challenge thrown at him so far.

Hope this kid continues this fantastic progress he has made to this stage.

He was wearing the number 7 shirt against Stuttgart the other night. Looked good, hopefully we see him make a few appearances in the EPL this season.

Could be a good option for us if our real number 7 doesn't come back for some time.

Knowing nothing about him, that he was given number 7 for the match suggest the type of role he might play for us in the future.

He was signed in January. Both Wilshire and Freeman are very highly rated prospects.

He's an AM, whilst Freeman is a striker.

As for the number 7, obviously he's not going to take Rosicky's role, he's more of a central player, but can play out wide. He can also play behind the strikers or as a second striker.

What a class act this lad is already. Great vision, strong on the ball, and looks to have a lethal strike in him.

Jack has been promoted to the first team squad for this coming season. He will inherit Gilberto's #19.

This is great news i reckon. The kid is class!

I like the way in which Wenger does not judge people on age but on their ability:

“You wouldn’t want to put any limitations on his participation in the season because he is only 16. At that age you can improve. He looked strong enough and not fazed by the big games. The quality is there. I don’t look too much at his age, more at what he is doing on the pitch, and right now what he is doing is good.”

It must provide confidence to the youngsters knowing that Wenger has faith in their game. We should see him make a few appearances this season.

it'd b great to see him explode in the PL at 16 like rooney. actually thought theo would b that but it wasnt quite so. havin said that, theo n rvp are the 2 players i most look forward to watchin this season, havent seen wilshere yet but hopefully he'll play in the proper season whether in be sub appearances or carling cup

Rooney didn't really explode for a few years.

I'd prefer Theo to keep getting better until he's as good as Henry was or close to it.

this kid is very very special.

his touch is quality, he has great passing, good pace, loves to run with the ball, knows how to score with a good left foot, has loads of confident but best of all HE GETS STUCK IN. he throws his body in the line, dives into tackles and shows a real feast for the fight, a man of my own heart. something we've been crying out for.
he should get a few games this year, i cant see the physical side of things fazing him like it does with other youngsters.

chelsea have already been linked with him in the press back home, rumours about them offering him a contract when he turns 17. he is a chelsea fan n'all.

He's well built for a 16 yo. He's got a low center of gravity and a bit of bulk for his age, meaning that he could be a good tackling player or someone who can run at defenders.

Wilshire broke Cesc's record for the youngest appearance in the league.

He's also likely to break Cesc's record for FA Cup performances, but Cesc retains the club and Carling Cup records.

Wilshere will turn 17 in little more than a couple of weeks (1/1) and sign professional terms with us.

The other young midfield gun, Ramsey has his birthday around the same time, from memory it's boxing day, although he's a year older.

Hopefully Wilshere will get more of a go once he turns 17 and signs professional terms.

Perhaps wilshire will get a chance now with cesc gone? Cesc was introduced in a similar situation at a similar age
There's only 1 Arsene Wenger

Wenger may wait until he turns 17 on the 1st and signs professional terms. Wenger has said he sees his development as closer to Theo's development when he signed.

On a different topic, it was good to see Ramsey get a run out last night. He's a decent passer of the ball, but could probably do with some more work in the gym.
